Property description
Hotel Aenos has its roots back to the 18th century. It was originally build in 1780 and served as a family mansion for permanent residence. It belonged to Count Metaxas, a family connected with important historical events of recent history of Greece.
In 1941, during the Second World War, Mussolini's forces occupied Cephalonia and Aenos Hotel was turned to the officers' club.
The catastrophic earthquake in 1953 destroyed most of the Ionian Islands. Aenos Hotel was not only demolished but it caught on fire and all its precious furniture was totally burnt.
In 1961, a small building with eight rooms on the first floor and some shops on the ground floor was constructed on the same site of the magnificent 18th century mansion, which was again rented as a Hotel.
All rooms are equipped with central air conditioning, ample bathrooms, and have been decorated with attention to detail.
Aenos' fully equipped suites provide an ideal setting for relaxation. The design and decoration includes carefully selected authentic time pieces that make each one unique.
Aenos' reception area on the ground floor is amply spaced and includes, in addition to the guest check-in area, a comfortable lounge. All hotel services are computerized using state-of-the-art information systems especially designed for hotel administration.
Aenos Hotel has a fully equipped Internet Cafe on the premises which aims to fulfill the entertainment needs of its guests, as well as the business communication needs that often arise while on vacation.
The Hotel's Restaurant and Bar combine comfort and luxury. The result is an environment that is both attractive and friendly. The tables set up in the Square itself make up a small oasis for enjoying a drink or a meal.
Argostoli is a town of historical significance, it replaced the Castle of St. George as the capital of Cephalonia in 1757, an event that marked its development as the commercial and administrative center of Cephalonia.
Argostoli offers a great variety of sights for tourists. One should visit the Historical and Folklore Museum, the Korgialenios Library and of course the Archaeological Museum. The renowned theater 'Kefalos' is one of Greece's most splendid buildings, having been completely reconstructed after the earthquake.
The picturesque Lithostroto is host to the town's commercial life, while the lively town market is found along the pebble-paved road with palm trees, with a view to the sea-lake of Koutavos. The region of Lassi and the exquisite beaches of Makris and Platis Yialos are found in the outskirts of Argostoli.
