Youth Hostel Pod Skalo can be found 300 meters from the center of Kamnik. This friendly hostel makes an ideal base for those wishing to explore the ancient city or for those who like to hike in a beatiful nature. We have the capacity for 17 guests in 8 newly furnished rooms. Each room has its own bathroom.

Pod Skalo is the name of the native house, situated close bellow the Northern slope of the Old Castle, and known for its hospitality since the 18th century. The building itself is some hundred years old and lies between the hill and the road leading across the Tuhinj Valley to Styria. The house, in which the wine used to be served and drunk, had different names in the past - Pri Jotu, Pri Jagru, Narodna gostilna Pri Skali pod goro, Pod skalco - the last giving the name to the nearby Kamnik sportsground with a swimming-pool, tennis courts, beach volley-ball area. At the beginning the building was a part of the Castle complex, but nowadays at least the fourth generation has been dealing with the catering trade, which always suited to the needs of the time.

Today the catering trade is running in the refurbished farm building with the pub and in the old modernized house, with the Chinese restaurant on the groundfloor and with 10 tidy rooms on the first floor and in the attics for the accomodation of 21 guests. From the parking place there is the shortest way to the Old Castle, where you can admire a gigantic old oak in diameter of nearly five metres.

'UNDER THE ROCK' ACCOMODATION

The common space is fitted out in old bourgeois style, intended above all for keeping company. The quests can sit there in the evenings, watching television, playing cards or chess. Each room has its own carefully settled bathroom and toilet. The quests can choose among 9 twin-bed or double-bed rooms and one triple-room. Each room is equipped with the TV and radio connection, as well as with the wireless internet. There is Cyber corner for the guests to be connected with the world and to communicate by e-mail. The guests can have breakfast in the restaurant. In the evenings they can go to our pub and play table-football and picado.
