Haikou Banana Youth Hostel, on Hainan Island.

We are a simple hostel based in Haikou city. We are an option for people who don't need much luxury, but want a good value place to sleep.

We offer basic rooms. You can stay in either the dormitory or a private room. Our rooms are very simple, consisting of a bed and desk and private shower, toilet and sink. Some rooms have Chinese style toilet while others have Western style. Some rooms have a fan and others have air-con. Most rooms have internet connection.

The ground floor is a communal area. There is free wi-fi, a TV with DVDs, pool table, ping-pong and a small garden area where you can sit outside.

Receptionists speak English and we will try our best to provide any information you need to get around Haikou.

If you want a cheap place to sleep and maybe meet some other people, you are welcome to stay at the Haikou Banana Hostel.

Recently I saw so many bad reviews on Hostel World. It hurts me to see so many bad things written about our hostel. I work hard to try and make a good hostel so I wondered why so many people left negative reviews, some of them not even true. We have made many friends through the hostel and we helped many people. How about the time I stayed in the hospital with a customer until 6 in the morning and even paid for his x-ray after a minor accident? How about the times we drove customers to Sanya for free? How about the people who stay at our hostel for months because they feel so at home and welcome here? Our hostel is not perfect, but I know many people are happy here. After discussing this with staff we decided maybe part of the problem was the previous description on Hostel World. The previous description made the hostel sound too good so people had very high expectations. After people arrived at the hostel they found that we are just a basic family hostel and so they feel disappointed, of course they are going to hate us and write bad things. We have changed our description and hope everybody is less disappointed. We will try our best to improve.
