We were also 'locked in' at the Orchid hotel in Hue in September during typhoon 'Ketsana' and we cannot second enough all the comments by Beast88. We could not fault the hotel from the free pick up at the train station after spending the night on the train to immediately having our room available to us at 8.30am. The local delicacy touches at breakfast were very enjoyable as well as the cake or fruit afternoon teas.

The internet in the room was extremely helpful during the 'Ketsana' period (when we had electricity). The hotel had its own generator which it was able to use at times in order to provide a little light and sustenance (free of charge) at lunch and dinner time. There were many other things the hotel organised to make our stay very comfortable during the typhoon period including ablution water.

We would like to sincerely thank the management and staff who made our stay so comfortable and were no doubt at the same time worrying about how their own families were faring. The Orchid Hotel is truly a gem - an outstanding hotel.

It's easy to see why this hotel is rated #1 in Hue. The service was impecable. We arrived at the Orchid just two days after Typhoon Ketsana had made it's way through Hue flooding most areas with many feet of water. We would never have known that the hotel had been affected. The hotel was spotless and the service was excellent.

The staff welcomed us and immediately made us feel like family. Because of the typhoon our planned arrival was much later than we had anticipated effectively causing us to lose a day of sightseeing in our already short schedule. Even though we arrived late in the day and had to change travel plans several times due to the train shutting down and the airlines running late, the Orchid met us at the airport at our much-changed arrival time. They welcomed us to the hotel with cool drinks and towels. We asked them to assist us in procurring a driver and guide who could help us fit in all the sights we wanted to see in the very limited time we now had. Not only did they make the arrangements with very little notice, they also adjusted the details of the normal package to meet our desires to see sights that were not normally included in the tour.

Every time we went to the reception floor, we were greeted with smiles and conversation and everyone, including the girl who served the breakfast who we initally only met for a short moment, always seemed to know us and our needs.

The hotel itself is very nicely located near the Perfume River and nicely situated within walking distance of town. We had a family room (for just two of us - we wanted the balcony) and the room was extra spacious and comfortable. We arrived during the full moon and the Autumn Children's festival and, even though the children were going up and down the street until late at night doing dragon dances and beating drums, the rooms were reasonably quiet. The breakfast was substantial and the rooms had all the amenties, including a dvd player and access to hundreds of free movie and music selections at reception. The rooms had a computer in the room and free internet access.

This was my favorite hotel in Vietnam and Cambodia. Would absolutely stay here anytime we were in Hue.

We had two nights in Hue and stayed at the 'Orchid Hotel' which lived up to all of its good reviews. On arrival they actually kept us waiting for our rooms for a whole 3 minutes and so they upgraded us to a family suite and the boys to a deluxe room. Both rooms had their own computers. This hotel and its staff are incredible. They even came with me across the road to get a Vietnamese sim card for my phone then proceeded to set it all up for me. We hired a car here and toured outside of the city to some temples and had a good day the countryside was beautiful. We ventured to the markets. Had our meals at restaurants within walking distance to the Hotel. All our meals were good, cheap and very tasty. Next we head off in a car to Hoi An.

Before I we say anything else (all complimentary) we happened to be staying at the Orchid during the time that Typhoon Ketsana came through. Due to floods, many other hotel clients were walking flooded streets looking for food and help. The Orchid Hotel ('You'll be surprised!') came through like the cavalry. When power was cut by the city due to the storm, Orchid employees were out wading in the water to find us food, sustanance and comfort which they provided free for all of us, coming door to door with the news. They reassured us that we would have our room for the nights we were delayed in traveling (we all were), they provided candles when the lights went out, they made sure the slippery paths were dry in the hotel, they provided comfort and friendship during a hurricane, and they provided safety and good will. We cannot say enough for the spirit and the friendship of this fine Hue hotel.

The rooms, the food, the service and the care were excellent for Hue - and the care in a crisis was worthy of Switzerland. To have a good hotel is one thing (and you have that in The Orchid), but to have such comfort and care in perilous conditions is another. The service was wonderful with provision of taxis, guides, counsel, news reports, computers in our rooms, food, and everything one would hope makes the guest fall in love. Some of the staff worked 3 day shifts to keep it going...all this whilst their individual homes had uccumbed to flood. Marvelous management, marvelous staff, and a terrific place to stay in Hue. Our manager said when I thanked him for everything the hotel is doing 'it is my duty.' We said 'your duty is our luck.' What lovely, lovely people and what a sweet hotel, a place that only gives you solid comfort, but the loyalty to its customers.

Excellent hotel in all respects. We had a family room and it was very nicely fitted out. bathroom was clean and nice. Beds were huge and comfortable. Free in room computer with internet was a nice touch. Also had cable TV and a DVD player. breakfast was also good and the hotel overall was presented very well. Staff were incredibly helpful. One of our children was quite ill and they helped us get in to a good local doctor very quickly. We also hired a 7 seater van with guide and driver to tour Hue - well worth it as getting around in the heat was hard and many of the attractions many kilometers apart. Also hired the van and driver to take us to Hoi An (approx A$65). Again was a great service and a really spectacular drive. Hue is a must see destination in Vietnam and we would strongly recommend the Orchid Hotel as a great place to base yourself.

I stayed at the Orchid hotel on 10 October and it was everything one could expect. Rooms were very nice and especially clean. The hotel staff was great and booked a private tour of the DMZ area at my request. I highly recommend asking for Mr. Qui the driver and Ms. Thach the English speaking guide if you do a day-trip. Mr. Qui was very professional and speaks excellent English (and very friendly). Ms. Thach is extremely knowledgeable about the DMZ area and associated tourist locations and made the day-trip a highlight of my travel to Vietnam.

From the time I entered the Orchid Hotel to the time I departed, everything was above excellent in standards. The rooms were nicely decorated, clean and very spacious. The staff was attentive and everyone tried their best to make your stay a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and there was always a wide variety of choices to select from. The location of the hotel was near everyything and as an older, single female traveller, I always felt safe; even in the nighttime walking around. If I ever return to Hue, the Orchid Hotel would be my immediate choice of accomodations.

An absolute gem. The service, was outstanding. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a banquet of delights. The rooms are big and beautiful, with computer facilities, dvd, tv, tea + coffee. Well worth the money. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel was a surprise for us, because of the staff and the facilities of the hotel.
The computer in the room was great . Breakfast was a really good buffet ...but it really is the staff the biggest surprise...they were so nice and willing to help with anything....and complimentary fruit plate and the little snack on the afternoon, each day were a great extra!

Have just come back from just over three weeks in Vietnam and the Orchid Hotel was the best hotel of its type we stayed at - much better that places we paid 3-4 times as much for! It's a smallish hotel with a personal touch. The staff are fantastic - efficient, very helpful and extremely friendly. The room was large, beautifully decorated and had all mod-cons. The breakfast was lovely - even better than some hotels with large buffets. The location is great with many restaurants and shops nearby and just a walk across the river to the Citadel. If you're going to Hue, I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

The Orchid Hotel was the best hotel we stayed in while traveling through Vietnam. The staff is extremely professional and friendly. We were picked up free of charge from the bus station to the hotel and were greeted with a welcome drink and then promptly assigned a room. The accommodations were great with A/C, TV, in room internet access, complimentary fruit and bottled water daily, and a buffet breakfast with a good variety of western and eastern selections. Unfortunately there was a downpour during our stay, however the staff gave us umbrellas to use during our day excursions and showed us their complimentary DVD library to catch up on a movie while spending the night indoors. We left Hue fully impressed with the Orchid and on top of that we were very grateful that when we forgot our Lonely Planet Vietnam book in the hotel room, they were able to send it to us express free of charge. What great service! We highly recommend the Orchid, definitely worth the money.
